PMSF Research Landscape

Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation Research Landscape

What is a Research Landscape?

A study of the outside influences and activities revolving PMSF is continually monitoring outside influences to provide direction and focus to our Research Strategy.  The foundation has invested in developing a clear picture of the PMSF Landscape.  Read more.

How does the Landscape help PMSF plan?

Understanding outside influences and identifying gaps in the scientific continuum helps PMSF plan investments in science that help move from basic science at the benchtop to translational science (turning basic science into meaningful drugs and therapeutics) through the drug development cycle.

For Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, the news on the research front is encouraging and exciting!

Below are three indicators of research activity, grant funding (how much money is being spent on PMS research), number of publications (indicating peer-reviewed scientific advances) and the number of research centers in the United States (international sites coming soon).

Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Funding

Research costs money, and if you want to understand how particular area of research is growing in influence and impact, take a look at the flow of grant money. In many ways, changes in the scale of grant funding directed towards a specific area so research can be used as a leading indicator predictive of future changes in knowledge creation and the subsequent changes in publication rates.

Publications related to Phelan-McDermid Syndrome

There is compelling evidence from the published literature that actual field of PMS research has been formed and is continuing to grow and gather steam from a knowledge creation perspective.

+  Research Publications

Research Centers in the United States

Identifying individual researchers or centers of Phelan-McDermid Syndrome research can help at improving regional awareness of PMS, lead to local fundraising campaigns that help raise and deploy resources closer to donor, and even assist with patient/family recruitment for research studies.

Drug Development and Therapeutics Resources

Understanding the drug development cycle and how PMSF and PMS patients can participate and influence drug development and therapeutics helps to move PMS science from basic science through translational science and on to therapeutics and drug development.
